Surgical Success -Infertility Couple Conceives at Canadian Specialist Hospital

Canadian Specialist Hospital in Dubai recently achieved medical excellence by providing successful treatment to an Egyptian couple, who suffered from infertility in their marriage of two years.

The husband came to the hospital seeking treatment from our consultant urologist Dr. Muthanna Alrawi. The patient was suffering from azoospermia, a condition of having no sperm, in this case.

In addition to this, he suffered from hormonal imbalance and another severe challenge called ‘bilateral huge varicocele’, which is an enlargement of veins that transport oxygen-depleted blood away.

The board-certified consultant uro-surgeon Dr. Muthanna took up the case and performed the surgical therapy on the man to correct the depletion of blood circulation in his veins, in addition to providing supplements to correct hormonal imbalance.

The 4-month treatment resulted in a successful outcome with the woman getting pregnant and delivering a healthy baby.

“Infertility refers to the inability of the couple to conceive even after unprotected, frequent sexual intercourse. Azoospermia is a medical term used when there is no sperm in the ejaculate,” says Dr. Muthanna.

According to him, it can be ‘obstructive’, where there is a blockage preventing sperm from entering the ejaculate or it can be ‘non-obstructive when it is due to decreased sperm production in the testis.

“For men with azoospermia, varicocele repair may result in improvement of the semen quality, which may have a significant advantage on a couple’s fertility. Bilateral microsurgical varicocele ligation is the treatment offered at Canadian Specialist Hospital. The surgery takes near about an hour,” Dr. Muthanna further said.

Infertility is not uncommon, affecting hundreds of thousands of couples worldwide. It affects them at the same rate as those globally. The most common reason for infertility in men in this part of the world is low sperm count.

“We provide treatment for infertility to anyone from any part of the world. The types of treatment bring hope to many families from around the world. We bring a feeling of hope in young couples,” Dr. Muthanna added.

The best way to face this is to practice the right, active lifestyle with proper dietary intake; and reduce risks of obesity, stress, and avoid late marriages.
